Directions
From the South and East
Leave the MI at J33 and go into Sheffield. Leave Sheffield on the A57 towards Glossop. The last buildings as you leave Sheffield on the A57 are the Bell Hagg pub on the right (now closed) and, opposite, the Valleyside garden centre.
About ¾ mile later, take the first right (Rails Road). Go straight across at the cross-roads and continue up Rails Road. If your SatNav directs you along Woodbank Road, ignore it (it's a single track road and not really suitable for cars) - continue along Bingley Lane until you enter Stannington. Immediately after the Stannington town sign, turn left on
Reynard Lane.
At the T-junction, turn left (Upper Gate Road). Follow this road for approx 1½ miles and take the first right turn (signposted Load Brook).
Go to the bottom of the hill. As the road bends to the right and you start to
go uphill again, the entrance to Load Brook Cottages is on the left by a large tree. There is a "Loadbrook Cottages" sign on the wall.
NOTE: rather confusingly, one of the other houses in Loadbrook is called "Brook Cottage" - this is not us. We are "Loadbrook Cottages".
From the North East
Leave the M1 at J36 and take the A61 into Sheffield. Pass the Sheffield Wednesday (Hillsborough) football ground on the right and turn right at the traffic lights just before KFC. Continue straight on at the mini roundabout and again at the traffic lights in the centre of Hillsborough. You are now on Holme Lane - continue past Towsure and the Park & Ride on the left and when you join the one way system, take the 2nd left (Stannington Road). Continue along Stannington Road (turning right immediately before the Sportsman pub), past the shops in Stannington and on in the countryside. Pass J&J Dyson brick works (now closed) on the left then up the hill. At the top of the hill, turn left onto Hilltop Road. After the double bend, continue straight on (Game Lane) passing two bungalows on the right and on up the hill. As soon the road turns downhill, there is another bungalow (Heather Bank) on the right and the entrance to Loadbrook Cottages is immediately after it - also on the right. There is a "Loadbrook Cottages" sign on the wall.
From the West and North West
From Manchester, take the M57 and then the A57 towards Sheffield. Go through Glossop and continue on the A57 over the Snake Pass. With the
Ladybower reservoir on your right hand side, go straight on at the traffic
lights. 100 yards later, pass the Ladybower Inn on the left. Continue up the hill passing the turning to Strines on the left. Take the next left turn
(signposted Stannington) just before a right hand bend. About a 1½ miles
later, take the first left turn (signposted Load Brook). Go to the bottom of the hill. As the road bends to the right and you start to go uphill again, the entrance to Loadbrook Cottages is on the left by a large tree. There is a "Loadbrook Cottages" sign on the wall.
